Vietnam's visa rules since 2023

5 steps · Updated

Three dated steps explain the visa rules most US and European travelers meet in Vietnam today. A 2023 law raised the e-visa limit to 90 days and visa-free stays to 45, and two government resolutions in 2025 named 24 countries whose citizens get those 45 days, the second for tourism only. Both lists end in 2028, on different days. The United States is on neither, so for US travelers the e-visa is the way in.

What to watch next

The government says Resolution 44 will be considered for extension under Vietnamese law; its report on Resolution 229 gives only an end date. Watch for a new resolution before either list expires, and check the one that covers your passport against your own arrival date.
