Quy Nhon itinerary: how to spend 1 or 2 days

This plan suits travellers who want beaches and seafood with a little Cham history, at an easy pace. Stay on the seafront in the city, where the 5 km promenade runs along Quy Nhon Beach; the Nhon Ly peninsula, with Eo Gio and Ky Co, is across the Thi Nai bridge, about 20 km away, so book a car and driver or rent a motorbike for that day. Come between February and August; October and November are the wettest months, and June to August brings domestic crowds and the heat. Nothing needs booking far ahead except your flight to Phu Cat or train to Dieu Tri.

How many days

Sunrise on the Eo Gio cliff path

Cost: Check the price at the gate: in June 2026 the new operator charged VND 40,000 while the province said the VND 22,000 fare had not been raised

Eo Gio is 19 km from the centre, about 25 minutes by car, so leave by 04:45. Lonely Planet calls the coastal path that hugs the cliffs here especially stunning at sunrise or sunset. Walk the cliffside path while the light comes up over the bay, and stay back from the edge in wind or rain. The site changed hands in June 2026 and the ticket price was in dispute, so ask before you pay.

Lonely Planet describes Nhon Ly as a village with a small fishing port to the south and whitewashed alleys of cafes to the north, and the coast path to Eo Gio a short walk away. Have breakfast at the stalls by the market and the harbour, then sort out the trip to Ky Co: Lonely Planet says it is reached by a short 4WD ride or a boat tour.

A cove of turquoise water and white sand under rocky headlands. Lonely Planet warns the secret is long out and the beach now draws plenty of domestic visitors, so the early start pays: swim and walk the rocks before the day's crowds. VnExpress International's report on Lonely Planet's 25 best places for 2026 names Ky Co among Quy Nhon's draws. Bring water and sun cover.

Eat in the village before the drive back. VnExpress International lists seafood prepared in local style among Quy Nhon's specialties, alongside fishcake noodle soup and banh xeo. Ask the price of anything sold by weight before it is cooked. Then head back to the city across the Thi Nai bridge and rest through the hottest hours.

Ghenh Rang Tien Sa and Queen's Beach

Cost: We found no official price; check at the gate

About 3 km south-east of the centre, Ghenh Rang runs along the shore for a kilometre and more of clear water and boulders. Bai Tam Hoang Hau, Queen's Beach, is named for Empress Nam Phuong, who bathed here; its pebbles are as round as giant eggs. The site sits at the eastern tip of the Xuan Van hills, so expect steps and slopes.

About 5 min walk, 0.1 km. Up the steps past the Mong Cam slope.

    Sight · 30 min

Han Mac Tu's tomb on Thi Nhan hill

Cost: Part of the Ghenh Rang site

Han Mac Tu (1912 to 1940) was a poet who led a new school of Vietnamese verse and is counted among the pioneers of modern Vietnamese romantic poetry. He fell ill with leprosy, spent his last years at the Quy Hoa leprosy camp nearby and died at 28; his family and friends later moved his grave to Ghenh Rang, as he had wished. The tomb stands on a rise with its back to the hill, facing the sea. It is a grave, so dress modestly and keep your voice down.

Seafood dinner on Xuan Dieu Street

    Cost: Seafood priced by weight

Lonely Planet sends seafood lovers to Xuan Dieu Street, where dozens of restaurants serve fish and grilled crab, and street stalls steam plates of oc (snails), a local favourite; for the adventurous, it suggests the jellyfish noodles. Agree the price by weight before anything goes to the kitchen. The beach is across the road for a walk afterwards.

Day 2

Cham towers, the promenade and the Ngo Van So food stalls

The two best Cham tower groups while it is cool: Thap Doi in the city, then Banh It on its hill 20 km north. Lunch on fishcake noodles, a rest, the seafront at sunset and street food for dinner.

Two brick Champa temple towers, also called Hung Thanh, from the late 12th or early 13th century, right in the city. Binh Dinh was once the heartland of the Champa kingdom, and Lonely Planet calls these towers beautifully preserved and easy to visit. Vietnam Pictorial gave the hours in 2024 as 07:00 to 18:00 daily and the adult ticket as VND 20,000; check at the gate for any change.

Cost: We found no official price; check at the gate

A group of Cham towers built in the late 11th or early 12th century on a 75 m natural hill, now in Tuy Phuoc Bac commune. Lonely Planet says the hilltop gives sweeping views over the countryside. A very steep stairway leads up to the top, where two brick buildings remain: the central sanctuary and a tower with a saddle-shaped roof to the south. Go early, before the heat, and wear shoes with grip.

    Eat · 45 min

    Fishcake noodles for lunch

    Cost: Meals vary

VnExpress International names fish cake noodle soup (bun cha ca), crispy shrimp pancakes (banh xeo) and banh hoi chao long, fine rice vermicelli with pork offal, as Quy Nhon's specialties. Look for a busy noodle shop near the central square. Then rest through the afternoon: from June to August, Lonely Planet notes, highs run around 30 to 34 C.

Quy Nhon Beach promenade at sunset

    Cost: Free

Lonely Planet calls the 5 km promenade along Quy Nhon Beach the city's centrepiece: as the sun sets locals come out for evening walks, games of volleyball start on the sand and families cool off in the water. On r/VietNam, travellers note there are few sunbeds or umbrellas for hire and that locals swim around sunrise and sunset. Swim only when the sea is calm.

    Eat · 1 h 15 min

Street food on Ngo Van So

    Cost: Stall prices vary

For dinner Lonely Planet points to Ngo Van So Street, where sizzling food stalls serve everything from fresh seafood to local specialties such as nem nuong, grilled pork rolls. Order a few plates from different stalls and share. Cash is still king in Quy Nhon, it adds, so keep small notes on hand.

About 5 min by taxi or Grab, 1.4 km. About 1.5 km to the beach.

  6. 19:456

    Do · 1 h

A cold beer at Surf Bar

Cost: Drinks vary; Lonely Planet puts a beer at a beach bar at about VND 32,000

Lonely Planet's suggestion for the end of the night is Surf Bar, right on the beach, for a cold beer. If you are leaving by train, Dieu Tri station is 11 km west of town; SE21 leaves for Nha Trang at 14:23, and from Hue SE1 arrives at 18:38, so plan the last morning around your train.

Tips for Quy Nhon

  • Eo Gio's ticket was disputed in June 2026, when the new operator charged VND 40,000 against the VND 22,000 the province said still applied; ask at the gate before you pay.
  • No bus goes to Eo Gio or Ky Co themselves: route T22 runs from the city to Nhon Ly (26 km, 50 minutes, first bus 06:00), so for a sunrise start book a car or rent a motorbike, about VND 150,000 a day by Lonely Planet's count.
  • October and November are the wettest months, at about 520 mm and 465 mm of rain at the Quy Nhon station; Lonely Planet adds that central Vietnam's storms can bring heavy rain even when typhoons miss the city.
  • From June to August domestic tour groups crowd Ky Co and the beaches; start early and keep the afternoons for the city.
  • Phu Cat airport is 32 km from the centre; Vietnam Airlines puts a taxi at VND 250,000 to 300,000. Trains stop at Dieu Tri, 11 km west, not at Quy Nhon station.
  • Carry cash in small notes; Lonely Planet says ATMs are plentiful in the centre but cash is still king.
  • Cover shoulders at Han Mac Tu's tomb and the Cham towers, and do not climb on the ruins.

Getting there, where to stay and the weather by month are on the Quy Nhon page. Plan checked 24 October 2026.
