Central Vietnam in October is the wettest month in three station records. Compare Hue, Da Nang and Phong Nha rainfall, rain days and caveats.

Central Vietnam in October is the wettest month in the Hue, Da Nang, and Phong Nha station records. We use the construction-regulation tables below, where averages describe a typical month, not a forecast.
The October rain totals are high in all three records. Hue records 772.7 mm, Phong Nha's Dong Hoi station records 649.1 mm, and the Da Nang station records 628 mm. October is the wettest month listed for each of the three places.
Rain days tell a similar story, although the values are not identical. Hue records 20.8 rain days, Da Nang 20, and Phong Nha 19.3. These are station averages, not a promise about a particular itinerary.
| Place record | October rain mm | October rain days | February rain mm | March rain mm |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hue | 772.7 | 20.8 | 63.3 | 51.3 |
| Hoi An and Da Nang record | 628 | 20 | 23.6 | 25 |
| Phong Nha record from Dong Hoi | 649.1 | 19.3 | 39.9 | 43.2 |
This side-by-side view shows how the rain totals fall away by February or March. Hue is down to 63.3 mm in February and 51.3 mm in March. Da Nang records 23.6 mm in February and 25 mm in March. Phong Nha's station records 39.9 mm in February and 43.2 mm in March.
Hue's October value is the largest of the three at 772.7 mm. The Hue station records 25.3°C as the October mean, with 130.6 sun hours. Its rain-day value is 20.8, while November is the station's highest rain-day month at 20.9 even though October has the highest rainfall total.
That difference is useful. A wettest month by millimeters and a month with the most rain days are not automatically the same. Hue's table shows October as the wettest month by rain, while November has the most rain days. We would keep both columns visible when comparing a stay.
The Hue destination page gives the place record its own context. For a direct choice between the two coastal records, our Hue or Da Nang comparison keeps temperature, rain, sun, and airports in the same view.
The Da Nang station records 628 mm and 20 rain days in October. Its mean is 26°C and its sun-hour value is 143.4. February is much lower at 23.6 mm and 5.6 rain days, while March records 25 mm and 4.8 rain days.
The Phong Nha record uses the Dong Hoi station. October there records 649.1 mm and 19.3 rain days, with a mean of 25.1°C and 129.2 sun hours. February records 39.9 mm and 11.2 rain days; March records 43.2 mm and 11.3 rain days. The lower rain totals do not remove the station's recorded rain days.
The Phong Nha place page helps identify the record's station. We would read it as a coastal proxy for the mapped destination, not as an instrument inside every cave or valley.
October deserves more careful planning if the route combines Hue, Hoi An or Da Nang, and Phong Nha. The data supports a wet-month label for all three records. It does not say that every day will be wet, nor does it tell us which hour a shower will arrive.
If the route can move toward February or March, the totals are much lower at each station. That compares the averages and is not a recommendation for one month. The Vietnam when-to-go guide can add regional context while this article keeps the central stations separate.
Hue's rain total falls from 772.7 mm in October to 63.3 mm in February, Da Nang's from 628 mm to 23.6 mm, and the Dong Hoi station's for Phong Nha from 649.1 mm to 39.9 mm. The averages say nothing about how a particular travel date will behave.
The rain-day values remain part of that reading. February has 11.6 rain days in Hue, 5.6 in Da Nang, and 11.2 at the Phong Nha station. March has 10.2, 4.8, and 11.3. Lower rain totals and remaining rain days belong in the same plan.
The Hue station is 4 km from the map pin. The Da Nang station is 22 km from the combined Hoi An and Da Nang pin, so our Da Nang record is not a separate Hoi An station record. We have no separate Hoi An climate record.
The Phong Nha figures come from the Dong Hoi station, 37 km away on the coast. The tables do not include storms, flooding, road closures, cave conditions, or the observation period. The regulation does not state that period, so we leave it unstated.
October's high rainfall total is therefore a planning signal from three station records. It is not a storm warning, a flood forecast, or a description of every point in central Vietnam.
