Hoi An weather by month: the dry half and the wet autumn
Hoi An's year splits cleanly: dry until summer, then an autumn that pours.
VerdictGo February to April for dry days at 31°C or less; avoid October and November if rain bothers you.
Hoi An weather by month comes down to one split: dry and hot from January to July, then very wet from September to December. Come February to April if you can choose; in October and November, come for the town and expect the weather to get in the way. There is no weather station in Hoi An (Hội An) itself, so the figures are from the Da Nang station: the pattern for this stretch of the central coast, not a Hoi An reading.

Here's what that wet season looked like for one family in late October 2025. Gemma, from Australia, reached Hoi An with her mother and brother on 26 October, partway through a 17-day trip booked well in advance. Friends had told them the water would have gone down by the time they arrived. Bad weather had already pushed them from a beach hotel to the old town, and there they found the streets flooded: "The sight of the sea in the old town was a completely new experience for my family," she told VnExpress International. Their Airbnb cancelled because of power cuts and rising water, and the restaurants shut. Locals and hotel staff found them a new room and sent their luggage through the flooded streets by boat, and the family waded about in raincoats with other tourists, which she called "memorable and different". Up the coast, Aditya from Indonesia had come to Da Nang on 25 October for a week; the downpours cancelled his outdoor plans and the flooding his Hoi An stop, so he drank coffee, ate pho and went to the spa instead.

The station is called Da Nang, listed at 6 m in the regulation's station table.

January to July: under 100 mm a month
Every month from January to July has under 100 mm of rain. February, March and April are the driest at 23.6 mm, 25 mm and 35.3 mm, with 4.8 to 5.6 rain days each. January is damper than that: 81.9 mm and 12 rain days.
From May to August the mean temperature is 28.4°C to 29.4°C, with highs between 33.3°C and 34.5°C. In Fahrenheit, 29.4°C is about 85°F. May is the sunniest month at 246.7 hours, followed closely by July at 246.2 hours and June at 242.3 hours.

How hot does Hoi An get in summer?
The hottest temperature in the Da Nang record is 40.6°C, set in May. April reaches 40°C and June 40.1°C. Those are extremes, but they show what a heat spell can do here. Humidity is lowest in summer, at 75.8% in July and 76.4% in June, so the hottest months are also the least muggy ones in this record.
Thunderstorms come mostly in the drier half of the year. The station records 8.4 thunderstorm days in May and 7.9 in September, against 0.7 in November and 0 in December and January.
September to December: the wet turn
The change is abrupt. August has 141.2 mm, September 350.7 mm and October 628 mm, more than four times the August total. November has 448.2 mm and December 218.4 mm. November has the most rain days at 20.3, and October has 20. Sun hours fall from 214.8 in August to 94.8 in December.
The central Vietnam in October guide puts this peak next to Hue and Phong Nha, and if you're planning around the monthly lantern night, the lantern festival dates list has each one. For storms, which monthly rain totals blur, see our typhoon season guide.
Single days can be extreme. The largest one-day rainfall in the station record is 592.6 mm in November, more than the average total for the whole month. October's one-day record is 398.2 mm and September's 355.4 mm. Humidity also rises to 84.4% in October and 85.4% in December.

This Vietnam Today report shows how Hoi An's old town copes with floods.
The cooler months
January is the coolest month at a mean of 21.5°C, about 71°F, with a low of 19.3°C. February is 22.4°C and December 22.2°C. The mean never drops below 21.5°C at this station. Fog is almost absent, with 2.2 fog days in March as the most in any month. The coldest temperature on record is 9.2°C, in December, and January's record low is 10.2°C.
In a thread about rain in nearby Da Nang, one r/VietNam user wrote:
"Danang will rain no matter what the weather forecast tells you. Only time i didnt see much rain was during December to January when i stayed for a week and it rained twice and thats probably the driest week ever"

Airports and the old town
Da Nang International (DAD) is the nearest large airport, with Chu Lai (VCL) and Phu Bai (HUI), the Hue airport, as alternatives. The closest airport to Hoi An article compares them and adds the Da Nang trains, and the airports guide covers every place on this site.
The Hoi An Ancient Town is the UNESCO-listed site here. UNESCO describes it as a small trading port active from the 15th to the 19th centuries, on the north bank near the mouth of the Thu Bon River. The Hue or Da Nang comparison shows how the same station reads next to Hue's, and Da Nang in November covers what still runs up the road in the wettest weeks. For the Cham temple ruins at My Son, inland from Hoi An, the My Son Sanctuary ticket price guide has the entrance fee and the show times, which the site's board pauses in bad weather.

Our take
February to April is the window we'd pick: little rain, few wet days, and highs that stay at 31°C or below. May to August is drier than the autumn but hotter. October and November are the months to avoid if rain is the concern; between them they carry close to half the year's rain, and the one-day record beats a whole average month. If those are your only dates, keep the plans loose, as Gemma's family had to.
How we checked this
Every figure comes from 13 tables of QCVN 02:2022/BXD for the Da Nang station, plus the UNESCO listing for the old town. We matched each value against the regulation PDF on 8 October 2026 and removed the straight-line distances that we had computed ourselves.
On 21 October 2026 we downloaded the PDF again and matched every Da Nang row in our source log to its table, then re-read the UNESCO listing and the VnExpress flood report behind the opening scene: all unchanged. Last reviewed: 21 October 2026.
What this does not tell you
The station is in Da Nang, not Hoi An, and conditions in Hoi An itself can differ from it. The regulation behind the table does not state its observation period. A "rain day" is not defined by the source. The figures are averages and say little about a particular week. The Hoi An and Da Nang page has the same table with fog and drizzle columns.
