Viettel tourist eSIM: plans, prices and how to buy online

Six plan codes, two Viettel pages that don't always agree, and one plan we'd skip.

VerdictFor a one- or two-week trip take a 5GB-a-day plan (5G60T or 5G80T); skip 5G120H unless you need calls.

The Viettel tourist eSIM costs VND 60,000 for seven days at 5GB a day, up to VND 180,000 for 30 days with calls included, plus a SIM cost Viettel's guide doesn't state. Buying it is the easy part of landing in Vietnam: find the red-and-white counter in arrivals, show your passport, pay, and you leave with a QR code to scan. For a week or two we'd take a plan with 5GB a day and skip the call bundles. The thing to get right is where you buy, not which plan.

Here's why. In November 2023 a Redditor and their travel companion bought Viettel SIM cards from a shop inside Da Nang airport, assuming anything inside the airport was official. Both cards went dead at the same moment, 36 hours later. At the Viettel store in Hoi An, the clerk looked them up: very old cards, no longer registered, and she said there were no official Viettel stores at Da Nang airport. They'd paid 240k dong at the airport; the store sold them 2GB a day for a month for 170k. Paying by credit card let them dispute the charge. In the same thread another traveler said they'd bought an eSIM at 10pm while standing in line at border control, and that they never trust anyone touting. That was 2023. Viettel's current guide names its own counter in the arrival hall of Da Nang's international terminal (see below), so that's the one to look for.

Updated 27 October 2026: added approximate US dollar and euro prices, moved buying online up the page, and rechecked the SIM cost on Viettel's own pages.

Viettel tourist eSIM plans and prices

Prices below are from Viettel's guide dated 1 November 2025 (01/11/2025 in Vietnam's day-month order), rechecked on 27 October 2026; Viettel's November 2025 tourist pages list the same six prices. Plans with a daily allowance say "per day"; 5G60H gives one total for seven days. Viettel's pages do not agree on 5G120H (see below).

5G180H30 daysVND 180,0007.01 USD / 6.35 EUR5 GB/day, 30 on-net minutes, 15 off-net minutes

The dollar and euro figures convert the dong price at Vietcombank's cash buying rate of 19 October 2026 (25,690 dong per US dollar, 28,351.97 per euro), the snapshot on our Vietnam money and eSIM page. Your card or the counter may use a different rate, and the SIM cost comes on top.

On-net minutes are calls to Viettel numbers; off-net minutes are calls to other mobile networks in Vietnam. If you searched for "5g80t," it's the 15-day plan with 5GB a day.

Can you buy Viettel tourist eSIM online?

The visitor registration portal asks for a front-of-passport photo and a portrait photo, in four steps: Photos, Information, Sim/Card and Plan. It shows no separate online checkout total, so confirm the full amount before you order.

One traveler on r/VietNam said the online purchase kept failing at the passport check. A reply from another user:

"Go to a Viettel shop when you are here. Sometimes the passport pic doesn't look enough like you and it fails. The selfie verifications are finnicky."

Which Viettel tourist eSIM plan suits your trip?

Match the validity to your trip first. Seven days: 5G60T if you want the same amount every day, 5G60H if your use is lumpy (a quiet week, then a day of maps and video calls). Fifteen days: 5G80T, with the same daily allowance as the week and month plans. A month: 5G150T for data only.

The two 30-day plans with call minutes, 5G120H and 5G180H, only make sense if you need to call Vietnamese numbers, and 5G120H has the conflicting data figure.

What does the Viettel eSIM price include?

The package price does not include the SIM cost, and the guide doesn't say what that is, so the plan prices above are not a checkout total. We looked again on 27 October 2026: Viettel's guide and its Buy Viettel eSIM in Vietnam page both still say the package price leaves out the SIM, neither gives a figure, and the online portal shows no price before you upload your passport photos. Ask for the total before paying at a counter.

Our Vietnam money and eSIM page has these plans next to a dated exchange-rate snapshot. The rest of the preparation is on the Vietnam trip planning page and the before you fly checklist, and the theft risks to keep a phone safe from are in is Vietnam safe for Americans.

Where can you buy Viettel tourist eSIM?

The tourist eSIM is sold at airport counters and authorized Viettel stores and dealers. In Hanoi the counter is in the international Arrival Hall of Noi Bai (Nội Bài) Terminal T2; in Ho Chi Minh City, the international Arrival Hall at Tan Son Nhat, after baggage claim and customs; in Da Nang, the Arrival Hall of the International Terminal.

Da Nang is also the airport with flights nearest Hoi An, as our closest airport to Hoi An article explains, and Vietnam airports by destination covers the other places we map.

At the counter: choose a package, show your passport for registration, pay, and you get an eSIM QR code. If you need dong first, our Vietnam ATM fees guide compares five banks' charges for a foreign card.

To find an authorized store in town, the guide points you to Google Maps; it gives no address list.

How to spot an official Viettel tourist eSIM counter

Several networks have booths in the same arrival halls. A genuine Viettel counter has red and white Viettel branding, often with "Tourist SIM" or "Viettel eSIM"; a price board in English and Vietnamese showing data amounts and validity; and staff who ask for your passport, because registration is required by law. Unofficial sellers may hand over pre-activated SIMs that stop working within a few days, which is exactly what happened to the couple above.

The passport rule is national, not Viettel's. Decree 163/2024/ND-CP, in force since 24 December 2024, sets the documents for registering a mobile subscription; for a foreign national it is a passport still valid for your stay, under your entry visa or within the visa-free limit.

Vietnamese travel vlogger Nick Nguyen shows where the SIM and eSIM counters are at Tan Son Nhat airport and what to watch for (in Vietnamese).

Check your phone before you land

Your phone needs to be unlocked and able to take an eSIM. For eSIM support, go to Settings, then About, then IMEI, and look for an EID number; if there is one, you're fine. To check it's unlocked, put in another SIM card and see whether the phone accepts it. Do both before you fly.

Viettel puts its 4G coverage at 98.6% of Vietnam's population and 5G at 91.2%. Those are the operator's figures; we did not test the network.

What we could not confirm

Viettel's primary guide lists 5G120H as "1,5 GB data/day," with 30 on-net and 15 off-net minutes. Four other Viettel pages, dated 1 November 2025 to 19 November 2025, list the same code as "1.5 GB data/30 days," with the same call allowances. Most of Viettel's own pages point to 1.5GB for the whole month, but the guide that sets out the prices still says per day, so confirm it at the counter.

The primary guide does not give the SIM cost. One Viettel review page (19 November 2025) calls the tourist packages "all-in-one" with one total price, yet the note under its own plan table says the package fee does not include the SIM price. Treat the listed prices as package prices and ask for the total, SIM included, before you pay.

Our take on the Viettel tourist eSIM

For a week or two, take 5G60T or 5G80T: the data is stated per day and both Viettel pages agree on it. Leave 5G120H alone unless you need its call minutes and can confirm the allowance at the counter. Buy only at the branded counter in arrivals or a Viettel store, never from a shop that just happens to be inside the airport, and ask for the full amount with the SIM cost before you pay.

How we checked this

We read 5 sources on 2026-10-07 and 2026-10-08 and opened them again on 2026-10-20: Viettel's eSIM guide, its visitor registration portal, two more Viettel articles (one with the other 5G120H allowance, one review page from November 2025), and the Can Tho city legal information portal for the registration rule. Every price, date and allowance in this article has a matching line in our source log, and the plan table above is a screenshot of Viettel's own guide. On 20 October we dropped one line citing Vietnam Tourism's trip-planning page, which no longer covers SIM cards. On 27 October we read the guide, the portal and Viettel's "Buy Viettel eSIM in Vietnam" page again (the six prices unchanged, still no SIM figure; the "Sim du lịch" tab of Viettel's own SIM shop leads to the same portal) and converted the prices at the Vietcombank rates on our money page.
