My Son Sanctuary

VerdictOur pick for a half-day out of Hoi An: be there at the 06:00 opening, ahead of the heat and the first 09:00 show.

Champa brick temple towers in a valley inland from Hoi An, UNESCO-listed since 1999.

My Son Sanctuary sits in a closed valley ringed by mountains, in Thu Bon commune, Da Nang city. Its management board describes more than 70 temple-tower structures of the Champa civilisation, built over nine centuries, from the 4th to the 13th. UNESCO added My Son to the World Heritage List on 4 December 1999.

The towers are grouped and labelled by letter, and the board's visitor guide uses those letters to say where the shows take place.

Getting there

The board puts My Son 45 km from Hoi An Ancient Town and 68 km from Da Nang city; those are its own figures. In a straight line on map coordinates it is about 25 km from the Ancient Town and about 32 km from Da Nang International Airport, so expect the drive to be well over the map distance.

Your ticket includes the site's electric shuttle, and the guide desk is at the shuttle stop.

The board's visitor guide says the ticket covers the museum, the electric shuttle, the Cham folk performances and the ruins themselves. A guide costs VND 100,000 per guide ticket; one ticket covers one to five visitors.

Da Nang city council Resolution 98/2026/NQ-HĐND, in force from 10 August 2026, sets the sightseeing fee at My Son at VND 40,000 per person per visit, the same for Vietnamese and foreign visitors. The board's price page says each ticket includes the sightseeing fee and a service charge, and both the price page and the online counter still showed the prices above on 24 October 2026. On the board's wording, the VND 40,000 is the fee part of the ticket, not a separate cheaper ticket.

Cham folk shows run several times a day, at the performance house and at the foot of tower group G. The first morning show is at 09:00. The board says shows are paused in bad weather. The My Son ticket price article lists every show time and the proposed price rise that had not reached the counter when we checked.
